SOUNDTRACK TO SURVIVAL

A MUSIC AND STORYTELLING EXPERIENCE

Recently released hostage Guy Gilboa-Dalal and his brother Gal will be joining us in the U.S. for a limited number of powerful, intimate evenings that bring together live music, real-time conversation and profound stories.

Guided by music, their playlist creates access to the deepest places of their emotions during and after Oct. 7.

This is a living, concert-like experience, not a traditional talk. It is shaped in real time by the brothers’ playlist, the audience, and direct conversation, creating something immediate, human, and impossible to replicate. In this rare experience, the brothers share their story of captivity and survival driven by art and culture.

THE MUSIC THAT FREED THEM
THE STORIES THAT MOVE US

Guy & Gal’s Story

Guy & Gal were at the Nova Music Festival when the attacks began. Guy was kidnapped while Gal found his way to safety. Of those who were taken, Guy suffered some of the worst physical and emotional treatment. Of those who survived, Gal fought as tirelessly and powerfully for his release as possible.

In one truly painful moment, Guy was told he would be freed and even brought to the site where others hostages were liberated only to be lied to and, after watching others return home, was brought back into captivity where his suffering continued.

Guy was among the last group to be released, among the last even of those individuals, to touch Israel again, to hug his family and to feel the embrace of his brother after so long.

The Message That Connected Them

When Guy realized he would not be released during that first time, he was able to get a message to his brother through a captive that was freed.

The message was that, in his darkest hours, he thinks of a song that his brother had taught him.

The stars in the night, they lend me their light
To bring me closer to heaven with you (bring me closer)

But with all that we've been through
After all this time I'm coming home to you

The Tattoo That Bonded Them

As part of Healing Ink, a project of Art Over Hate Collective, Gal memorialized this proof of life from his brother with a tattoo of images and words from the song.

His goal: to show his brother this tattoo when he returned home, letting him know that he was never forgotten, that the message was received and that he never gave up of his return.

The Call That Moved Us

Not yet home from the hospital, Art Over Hate Collective received a message from Guy and Gal about Guy’s reaction to the tattoo. He loved it. It did exactly what Gal intended and made his brother know that he was always in Gal’s heart.

Guy later shared that while in captivity, he decided to live his life on his own terms and that he was no longer afraid to get a tattoo. He swore to himself that when released he would finally adorn his body and he would only do it as part of the Healing Ink project.

Exclusive U.S. Tour

This live, participatory, arts and culture driven event is very different than the traditional speeches from other Oct. 7 survivors.

  • Guy & Gal are brothers who represent both time in captivity and time on the outside fighting for release

  • Driven by music, this is more of a concert and arts event with the deeply personal stories woven within the fabric of the music

  • The audience is invited to participate both in the curation of the music and sharing their thoughts, feelings and questions about the songs and about the brothers

  • Since the music and the feelings it creates will be different each time, each happening is unique and irreplaceable

  • This is an exclusive U.S. tour and one of the only times Guy and Gal have shared their narratives

  • Due to the deeply personal nature of this project, there are limited engagements only
